FAQ

Frequently asked questions

1. Do acupuncture needles hurt when applied?

The needles are so thin that some patients do not feel them at all. Some patients will say they feel a dull prick on the spot where the needle is applied.

2. How many treatments will it take to relieve pain?

Most patients experience some immediate pain relief after the first session. It is usually necessary to repeat the treatment several times for the best results. Treatment of tendonitis and other severe muscular injury may require more follow up.

3. I have been trying to conceive without success. Can you help?

I specialize in treating infertility and have had favorable results with my patients. However, there is no absolute guarantee of success. Treating infertility with traditional Chinese medicine involves a combination of acupuncture, herbal therapy, diet and a change in lifestyle to reduce stress on the mind and body.

4. I have chronic back pain for many years. How do you treat a condition such as mine?

First, we relieve the pain with acupuncture. Then we combine massage therapy to relax the muscles. Because the muscles have developed a "memory" from stress or injury, it will take a series of treatments to realign the energy in your body and to loosen the areas that are problematic. Depending on the severity of the injury I may combine the use ultrasound and cupping to increase the flow of blood through affected areas to provide relief.

5. Will acupuncture help with tendonitis?

Yes, acupuncture can be used to treat tendonitis. However, the condition evolved over a long period of time. Based on your current physical activity, I recommend a series of treatments combined with massage and ultrasound to reverse the condition.

6. What kind of payments do you accept? Do you accept health insurance?

I accept payments in cash or check. I do accept health insurance coverage from certain providers. You will need to check with your health insurance provider to see if you are covered for acupuncture treatments. I do not accept HMO plans. For all office visits a typical $20-$25 co-pay is required based on the conditions of your provider and the requirements of your individual deductible.

7. How does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture is based on principles related to I Ching, the Tao, the meridian of the body's energy points and Chi (life energy). Although esoteric in its origins, experienced and certified practioners place acupuncture needles on energy points corresponding to the specific part of the body or organ that is out of balance. The needles shifts the flow of energy to the organ and realigns or balances the Yin and Yang of the body. This revitalizes the Chi, renergizes the body and helps it to heal naturally.
